I would like to thank Margaret and Kathi for answering my question. I really appreciate all the kindness I have seen to help each other on this list. Here's what Margaret wrote: Sounds to me like you have one label set to scale, the other is not set to scale (change size with the amount of zoom). There is a setting in the dialog box for the labels you can check. Make sure both are set the same. Make sure if you are using this feature that you are at the same zoom level when you make the labels for each layer. Alternately, you can click on one of the labels that is the size you like, open the Show symbol window choice from the windows menu, click on the text button. See what size the text is, then click on a text from the other theme that is not the size you want and change the size to exactly the same by typing the value into the size box. It should change all the labels for the theme to the new size. Here's what Kathi wrote: Could you perhaps have applied the labels when the view was at a different scale? The point size of the text label applies to that View scale, if you change scales the text size will scale also, thus appearing larger or smaller. FYI -- I have had best results setting the text label size from the Legend Editor, text palette (any theme will do, it will apply until you change it or revert default when you close the project). I also choose a specific view scale to apply labelling at (say 1:10,000), then I go in and move, edit, etc. Thanks so much for answering my questions. You gave me the exact information I needed. I am trying to add two different labels. I am using 2 themes to do the labelling. With one theme, I set the theme label location properties and column to be accessed, the symbol and text size (4), and then use button to label by the theme properties location. With the second theme, I have set the symbol to not show up on the view but have set the text size to the same as the other theme (4), chosen another column and a different labelling position and have used the button to label by theme properties. On the view, the labels are overlapping in some areas and I have to edit them. The problem I am having is that the labels either are coming in larger than the size I originally picked, or are being reset to a larger size when I zoom in to edit them and then do not go back to the smaller size. I have two views at exactly the same scale and location showing different information. One is maintaining the smaller labels, the other is not. I would like them to look the same in the layout and I am unsuccessful. Does the size of the text change according to the size of the symbol selected, even if you have set the size in the symbol editor? I do not know what factors are changing the size of the text. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
